Executive Masterclass

In August last year, I was coaching Matthew (name changed for privacy).

He came to me and said:
“I know what to do. I just don’t know if I can keep being this version of myself.”

From the outside, things looked great - his team respected him, his stakeholders trusted him and his results were strong.

But on the inside? He was running on empty.

Because the leader he was performing and the leader he actually wanted to be were miles apart.

And the gap was getting wider day by day.

I realised Matthew was not alone.

Most senior leaders do this when they step into bigger roles.

They start performing the version of leadership they think is required: the steady one or the certain one. Or perhaps, the one who never questions, never falters or never admits they’re still figuring it out.

And in doing that, they slowly stop leading from who they actually are.

That’s The Intention Gap.

The space between the leader you intend to be and the one you feel forced to perform.

And closing that gap is what separates leaders who burn out from leaders who grow into the role without losing themselves.

That’s why I created the Executive Masterclass.

What is the Executive Masterclass?

The Exec Masterclass is an elite pilot of ambitious leaders who want to develop the mindset and methods to lead authentically.

It’s not generic leadership coaching, it’s an invite-only programme that combines deep reflection with practical tools.

It’s ideal for executives who are within the first 18 months of their role, or are about to step into a new leadership role. This is when leaders often fall into familiar traps. We’re not going to coach the role, but we’re going to coach the person behind the role, to allow you to become a highly strategic and authentic leader.

How do I join the Masterclass?

We’re hand-selecting a few individuals that we think are right for this pilot, so please do read more about the Masterclass and apply if you think it can help.

Alternatively, just hit reply and I will answer any questions you may have.

I personally reply to everyone, so please don’t be shy.

But, if you’ve been feeling the weight of expectation, unsure where to focus, or caught between proving yourself and protecting your wellbeing, then this Executive Masterclass is for you.

The Intention Gap Scorecard

If you’re not quite ready to join the Executive Masterclass, that’s OK. We have plenty of tools that can still help you.

Many of my clients have been taking The Intention Gap Scorecard to find out exactly what leader they are.

Perhaps you can try that out first to get some more insights, and then let me know how the info has made you feel.

Good Morning Reader Today I want to talk to you about the beauty of boredom. I know what you are thinking. Boredom? Really? You are telling me, someone navigating complexity, leading teams, making decisions that matter, that I need more boredom in my life? Yes. That is exactly what I am telling you. And if you will give me a few minutes, I think I can change how you see this entirely. When I was a teenager, I noticed something that unsettled me. The person I was with my school friends and the...

Good Morning Reader Last week I told you that clarity comes before purpose. This week I want to tell you what clarity actually costs. Nobody wants what comes next. "You have had the insight. You have had the conversation. You have felt the shift. And then you went back to exactly what you were doing before." In my executive coaching contracts, I have a rule. It is written clearly and it is written in bold. If we meet three times and you have not taken action on what we have talked about, I...

Hi Reader Purpose Is a Privilege I Cannot Afford That was the opening line of a conversation I had with a client. Twenty-nine years in corporate. An extraordinary career. The kind of leader who quietly held organisations together while others took the credit. He had navigated roles, managed politics, delivered results, and built a reputation that most people spend entire careers chasing. And then the question came. What next? He had started reading. The books, the articles, the LinkedIn...
